Couples Counselling

Growing and Stretching

As a psychologist with a special interest in relationship counselling, Kaye has worked with couples in the Toorak, Malvern, Brighton and inner south areas of Melbourne for over 15 years helping them to build flourishing relationships while at the same time growing and stretching themselves in the process. She particularly enjoys working with couples as she sees any issues as an opportunity for growth of both the relationship and the people in it.

In her couples practice Kaye is trained in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy (Level 3) and uses this as the basis of her work. In addition, she has been trained in, and uses, other approaches such as Emotional Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Couples and Bader’s Development Model of Couple Therapy.

Much depends on the needs and goals of her clients and, after an initial intake and assessment session, Kaye works with each member of the couple to ensure that the course of therapy is sensitive to their and the relationships needs.

She gives couples a safe and non-judgmental space to address their concerns, and the skills and understandings to work on and resolve their issues together. Her goal is to work with couples to slow everything down enough achieve effective communication, provide unique insights, re-establish trust and reconnection, and build resilient and sustainable relationships based on truth and respect.

Kaye works with couples with the following issues:

  • communication difficulties
  • infidelity
  • conflict management
  • life adjustment (new baby, interstate moves, relatives moving in, empty nesters)
  • step parenting and extended family issues and managing in-laws,
  • decision making in the relationship
  • loss of meaning and direction in the relationship

She particularly likes working with new parents and offers the Gottman Bringing Baby Home program to assist with their adjustment.

To ensure clients and their relationship are most appropriately cared for, if there is a concern about high levels of drug or alcohol dependence or violence of any nature in the relationship, couples will be referred to a suitable service for couple and/or individual treatment.

Please note that there is currently no Medicare rebate for couples therapy.
